Dancer, Performer, Entertainer, Instructor, Yarima Gavilan Herrera is a highly accomplished and popular Afro-Cuban dancer from Havana, Cuba.
Her dynamic, elegant, sensual and sexy performance style keeps audiences glued to her every move. Her charisma and warm personality attract people to her.
This, along with a clear and structured teaching style, has made her a very popular and effective dance teacher.
Yarima is based in Sydney but also performs and teaches workshops in other states and regional towns in Australia. She teaches Cuban style Salsa, Son, Afro-cuban, Rumba, Timba, Rueda, Reggaeton and Salsa Suelta.
Yarima has performed extensively around Australia with stage shows such as ‘Afro-Cuban Express’, ‘Cuba Todo Loco’, ‘Cuban Folkloric Company’; and each year at annual festivals such as The Latin Fiesta – Darling Harbour, Spanish Quarter Festival – Sydney, as well as club performances, corporate events and private parties. She has also taught and performed many times at the Sydney Salsa Congress. In 2007 she was also a Special Guest Performer and Instructor at the 1st New Zealand Salsa Congress, in Wellington, and at Australia’s 1st Cuban Dance and Music Congress.
Last year, 2009, March 9th, Yarima performed ‘Cuba Baila’ at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, supporting Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca. This half hour show received rave reviews.
For the last 6 years Yarima has been the featured performer of ‘ The Cuban Festival’ at Club Marconi. Every Saturday night in the month of October, Yarima performs and entertains with her team of dancers. Over the years this festival has grown to be a hugely popular event, featuring 2 live Salsa bands and Yarima’s ‘Cuba Caliente’ show.

Yarima is currently the only professional female Cuban Dancer living and working in Australia.
